About Alyson

Alyson studied public policy but her professional experience ranges from wilderness education to documentary filmmaking. Throughout her 20’s she worked in alternative education programs, like Outward Bound and Big Sky Youth Empowerment, leaning into social and community engagement with adolescents. After a decade in social work, she pursued a career change to make social advocacy documentaries. She earned her Masters in Fine Art and founded DIY Docs, a nonprofit film education and production organization. DIY Docs produced The Sister Cities Docuseries, about Jackson Hole and Tlaxcala, Mexico. Alyson taught first-time filmmakers in English and Spanish to shoot, direct, and edit their own documentaries. In 2021, she moved to Tlaxcala on a Fulbright Fellowship to live and work for a year. As a result, 25 short films premiered in Hueyotlipan and Jackson in 2022. 

Her work has also premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival and been distributed across national syndicates like PBS, Field of Vision, Al Jazeera, and NPR. Alyson led the local edition of StoryCorps’ One Small Step, an audio series to foster civil dialogue between people with opposing political and religious views.

During the 2024 election, she brought local candidates to speak one-on-one with voters, broadcasting their conversations on KHOL. It was then that she began considering public office—initially believing someone else should step up! 

When she applied for an open seat on the Town Council in 2025, out of 17 applicants, Alyson was unanimously chosen by the current Council and Mayor to serve a 2-year term. Now she’s running for re-election to continue the work that she’s begun on the Council.

Currently, Alyson holds multiple jobs for local businesses. She works nights, weekends, and holidays without PTO or vacation. She tends bar at the best Italian restaurant in the West: Glorietta Trattoria. She works as a bookkeeper for a small, family-run construction business that’s building a home for a local family. Her husband and she own and operate Jackson Hole Production Company, a local business providing sound for live events. And she also runs her own company, Maven Media, which specializes in English and Spanish film production. 

From Alyson

I believe serving in local government means putting your head down, doing your homework to be prepared for meetings, and lifting other people up. It means showing up to work; I haven’t missed a meeting yet. Beyond official meetings, I am out in the community and listening to people from all walks of life because that’s part of the job too. 

If you know me, you know I don’t love the spotlight. I’m more comfortable behind the camera, leaning into my curiosity about who’s in front of it. I want to hear what you think and what matters to the people of Jackson. Often people don’t feel like they are heard. Well, I’m listening. I know you can’t make everyone happy, and some of my decisions will disappoint people, but I want them to feel like they were heard, like I at least understood their point of view when it came time to make a decision. 

I work well with others, and I enjoy it. I like being part of a team, like being on a film crew or working at a restaurant. When I make decisions, I look to build consensus. I value other people’s opinions and expertise. I appreciate what the other elected officials bring to the table, and work well with them. I have good relationships with our state and local electeds, and with people from across the political spectrum both in our community and across the state.
